Fifth Grade

I received an education from the Douglas County School System.  I attended Winston Elementary, Stewart Middle, and graduated from Douglas County High School.  I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education from Mercer University in 1996.   I also received my certification for teaching K-4 in 2002. I recently graduated with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southern University.  This is my 22nd year of teaching 5th grade at Winston Elementary School.

I have taught 5th grade at Winston Elementary School for 22 years.  I have been the 5th grade Junior Beta Club sponsor for 18 years.  I was Teacher of the Year for Winston Elementary for the 2000-2001 school year. I was also named Winston Elementary School Teacher of the Year for 2010 & 2011 school year as well.

I have training in the following areas:  Reading First, Catching Kids Up, Moving with Math, Corrective Reading, Learning Focused Schools, Kay Burke Unpacking Standards & Performance Tasks, Teacher Keys Effectiveness, and Lucy Calkins Areas of Study and Ruby Payne.  I am the English/Language Arts Representative for Winston, Junior Beta Club Sponsor, team leader for 5th grade.

I am married to AJ Joiner and a mom to Jordan, age 18 and Drew, age 14.  I am also step-mom to Andria, age 23 and Matthew, age 18.  My husband, AJ, is a Cobb County Fireman and EMT.  He is also owner of a medical transport service called AmTran. My family and I live in Temple, Georgia. We are blessed with our first grandson, Vince.  He is 21 months old and the most precious little boy in the whole wide world.  I enjoy exercising, shopping, traveling, spending time with my family, friends, and most of all putting my heart & soul into teaching. Teaching is definitely my "calling in life" and I could not imagine doing anything else.
