Winston Elementary Mission, Vision, Goals, and Beliefs

Mission

At Winston Elementary School the staff is committed to providing experiences that will prepare students through learning today for living in our constantly changing world.  Through the involvement of home, school, and community, students will experience opportunities that promote individual growth and respect for self and others in a safe and caring environment.

Vision

Our vision is to build a community of lifelong learners that become responsible individuals, independent thinkers, and productive citizens.

Goals

  • To provide a challenging, comprehensive instructional and curricular program for all learners.
  • To provide a school environment that is safe and supportive and enhances the learning process.
  • To improve communication throughout the school community.

Beliefs

  • Because cooperatively established goals are important to the success of student learning  and improvement in the school, Winston Elementary School's belief statements are:
  • All students must have the opportunity to learn, be successful, and become productive citizens.
  • All students can learn, but they learn in different ways and at different rates, and have different learning styles.
  • Every child's education is a planned, sequential, developmental process.
  • Learning is achieved through the use of a variety of teaching techniques obtained through results-driven professional development and training.
  • Assessment of student learning should provide students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their achievement of the high expectations  for their learning.
  • Accepting responsibility for one's decisions and actions is an integral part of learning.
  • All students must be prepared to function effectively in a knowledge-based, technologically rich, and culturally diverse 21st century.
  • An orderly, clean, and secure environment, monitored by the entire educational community, is essential for teaching and learning.
  • Diversity should be promoted so that isolation of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups is avoided and education is enhanced in a diverse, inclusive setting.
  • Home, school, and community share the responsibility for nurturing the natural curiosity and skills necessary for life-long learning.
